can you say Double jeopardy?

I am not a lawyer and I am not trying to be a lawyer, but as a human I know when something is fair and is not fair. Here is one thing to add to the list of unfair things that make me angry. In my eyes it looks like double jeopardy.

Here is what the definition of double jeopardy is according to the dictionary. Something we all depend on when we need to know what something means.

dou·ble jeop·ard·y  Noun
  1. The prosecution of a person twice for the same offense.
  2. Risk or disadvantage incurred from two sources simultaneously.

OK, so now that we all know what it means lets take a look at something.

This is my opinion and you can make your own judgement but when you are arrested from an internet sting they are allowed to charge you multiple times for the same crime. Here is my example.

You are sending emails/texts back and forth to this undercover. You are having a conversation. Mind you each conversation is dealing with the same people/person. It is one ongoing event.

They are allowed to charge you separately for each email/text. So if you wrote 20 emails back and forth with this person and 10 of them they considered "dangerous" then you can be charged 10 times. It does not matter that it is all the same event with the same person/people.

Well to me this is the same offense. Isn't is? He was not speaking to 10 different people on 10 different occasions. If you shoot someone and then stab that same person during the same event are you charged with attempted murder two times?

It just drives me crazy. How is that fair? I know that any kind of immoral conversations is wrong but the harshness of the penalties are out of control.
